Markus Lokai


Born at Dueren/ Germany in 1970.
From 1994 - 1997 he studied photography at the institute of arts Saint-Luc in Liège / Belgium where he finished with grad./diploma. Since then he worked for magazines and Newspaper editions and was represented Europe-wide by the photo agencies Visum and . Since 2002, his work also gets international interest at touring exhibitions and photo meetings, especially his photo series about the problem of homeland destruction and climate change by open cast mining and his photo series about political refugees. The WDR , German television broadcast, produced a documentary about this work. In cooperation with the Robert Bosch Stiftung (Robert Bosch donation), several interesting exhibition projects were organised in Berlin/Germany, Pécs/Hungary and the Usti nad Labem/Czech Republic. Markus Lokai is a founder member of the international photo collective LUNA, unfortunately not existant anymore. From 2014 to 2016 he lived and worked in Berlin. He now lives and works as a freelance photographer in Cologne.
