Briefly...

In today’s world of image story-telling there is no better tool than the spontaneous smart-phone or small compact to allow the amateur photographer to document and illustrate his/her impressions. As we discover the different aspects of life in the mountains in the Chamonix Valley, we will concentrate on enhancing the famous « photographer’s eye ». Which means anticipating and reacting quickly to what you see.

Workshop in the Chamonix Valley

4h

During the different itineraries that we can explore in the Chamonix Valley, we will concentrate on capturing our « first impressions » such as those that we experience during vacation travels and discoveries.  We will try to work on illustrating not what we see, point blank, but, instead, our impressions. Thus communicating our emotions. We’ll  then work on being more effective by using  framing and composition to illustrate what we want.  No need – YET - to spend precious seconds on digital technique.  We’re going for the «first impression » which means being alert and fast.  We’ll be outside during the walk, in good weather or in bad, in the sun or, if we’re lucky, in a snow storm.  And occasionally we’ll take a pause in  authentic mountain interiors for a drink, snack or meal.  These well-earned stop-overs will add to the story-telling illustration of the walk.

An occasional trick of the trade will be proposed to liberate you from the too much technical obstacles and allow you to be completely spontaneous.

That’s the beauty of the smart-phones and small compacts.

What you’ll gain with this course :

- An « on the turf » opportunity for the beginner photographer to develop a photographic eye with dynamic framing.  The wil be different and sometimes extraordinary conditions of light, action and scenery on each itinerary.

-  A fun and easy-access class for the person who doesn’t want to be bothered with too much technique but wants to learn how to capture images, faithful to his vision and to his personality.

The course is also :

- small group participation allowing for individual attention

- developping a fast & photographic eye while on the turf

- gaining speed in analysis due to better anticipation

- on the spot portrait opportuinities during encounters with local inhabitants

- allowing spontaneity to be your guide. Invent your photography.

- Most of all, take advantage of this outing to unwind and enjoy the experience of discovering and photographing one of Europe’s most popular playgrounds, yet oh so confidential.

Key Details

- Each itinerary offers a variety of subjects and can be further adapted to the participants’ expressed interest ; nature, traditional architecture, encounters, secluded and little-known hamlets…
- Pleasant stop-overs will be organised during the walk for either a drink, tea & cake or lunch, always in a photogenic spot worthy of being part of the story-telling experience.
- A mountain environment such as the Valley of Chamonix is constantly changing during the seasons. These photo outings are proposed throughout the year and offer a variety of settings at different altitudes, vegetation and foliage as well as unique and even rare architecture.
